The Chicago White Sox are one loss away from tying the Major League Baseball (MLB) record for most losses in a season.

The White Sox fell 3-4 in extra innings to the visiting Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, California, on Sunday at Angels Stadium.

With the score tied 3-3 in the bottom of the 13th inning of extra innings, right-hander Jairo Iriarte allowed Jordyn Adams to hit an infield single to shortstop to end the game.

The loss was the White Sox' 117th of the season (36-36, .235).

With three more losses in their remaining nine games, the White Sox will tie the MLB record for most losses in a season since baseball's rules were established in the 20th century.

The record is 120 losses, set by the New York Mets in 1962.
